Shofar: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Jewish Studies invites submissions for a special issue on the work of the beloved poet and translator Chana Bloch.

Essays, poetry, and translations are welcome. The complete call for submissions is below, with a deadline of November 1st, 2017.

In her poem “Afterlife,” Chana Bloch (1940-2017) writes: “And then I rose / to the dazzle of light, to the pine trees, / plunging and righting themselves in a furious wind.” Indeed, Bloch’s words will continue to rise, to dazzle. For a special issue of Shofar, we are seeking essays, poetry, and translations that reflect upon and celebrate Bloch’s contributions as a poet, translator, and educator. We hope to represent the breadth of Bloch’s influence, and the importance of her legacy in American letters and beyond. Please submit scholarly essays (up to 7000 words), poems, and translations (up to three per submission) to darabarnat@post.tau.ac.il by November 1st, 2017.
